The Malta U17 Snooker Junior Open, organized by the Malta Billiards & Snooker Association, is set to make a highly anticipated comeback after a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Scheduled to take place from the 2nd to 7th January 2025, the event will be held at the renowned Peace Band Club in Naxxar, known for its exceptional snooker facilities. This tournament, open to cueists under the age of 17, has been a significant platform for young snooker talent since its inception in 2007.
Past winners of the Malta Junior Snooker Open include current professional player and 2023 World Snooker Champion Luca
Brecel (2007 - inaugural event), and top local player Brian Cini, who won the event in 2013 and 2014. The event has attracted a strong representation of young talent from countries like England, Belgium, Poland, and Northern Ireland.
Despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, the MBSA is committed to gradually rebuilding the tournament to its former glory.
The total prize fund for next year's edition will be of €1,000, making it an attractive opportunity for rising snooker stars to showcase their skills and compete at a high level.
The Malta Snooker Junior Open will feature a competitive format that begins with a group stage, followed by knockout rounds, culminating in the final match to determine the champion on Tuesday 7th of January 2025. The format allows participants to showcase their skills in the initial group matches before advancing to the elimination rounds, where the stakes will be higher and every match will be crucial in the quest for the title. Young cueists will have the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and determination as they compete for the coveted championship and a share of the €1,000 prize fund.
